7/31/2010 Guinness Record Bottle Chain Event
A few months ago Deb Laidler's older son John, age 13 and in 8th grade at Hilbert Middle School in Redford, came up with a hair-brain idea of setting a Guinness World Record for the longest chain of plastic bottles. She submitted the idea to Guinness and within a few weeks they had created the category for him but with a minimum length of 1 km. Deb did the math using a standard water bottle length and figured out she needed 5200 bottles. She set out on a quest to get friends and family to donate all their plastic water bottles, and after 2 months she finally reached her goal. The actual event took place at Bently Field in Livonia on 7/31/2010, where Deb, son John, and family and friends, along with the help of Home Depot pulled it off.
